10 movies. 5 days.
It’s the week before the Oscars… which means I’ll be running from movie theater to Blockbuster to home (to update my Netflix queue) trying to see all of the movies that have been nominated for the “Big Six”: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Picture, and Best Director.
I’ve done this every year for the past four years, and think it’s totally worth it.  Seeing the nominated work makes it much more fun for me to watch the Academy Awards. And, of course, it allows me to scream obscenities at the TV when they pick the wrong winner.Â
Since I’ve been lazy this past year about seeing movies, this will not be easy – I still have 10 movies to see before Sunday night. And I have actual social plans on Thursday, so that night won’t include any screenings.
I hope my eyes don’t give out before Sunday night.
my wednesdays are filling up again
I don’t have much to say today – I’ve had a headache for two straight days now, and nothing is helping. So I’m just focusing on this:
ANTM is back on the 20th! And Paulina Porizkova – who I loved in Her Alibi – is replacing Twiggy as a judge! I loved Twiggy, but think it’ll be fun to switch it up. And they’re heading back to New York, where the show started!
Let the modeling begin!
always in our hearts
For girls that came of age in the 80s, John Cusack in Say Anything was THE guy that everyone wanted.
For girls that came of age in the 90s? Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You.
Heath, we’ll miss you.
happy thoughts for the weekend
Thanks for bringing to my attention, Marta!
pity party
Last night’s holiday party did me in – I spent most of last night and this morning on the bathroom floor, praying that my stomach would stop revolting against me. Stomach? You should be used to vast quantities of sparkling wine, mixed vodka drinks, and mudslides by now. I know I didn’t eat dinner last night, so maybe you have the right to be mad at me. But to make me miss two holiday parties tonight that I know are awesome? That’s just mean.
As I sat on my couch feeling sorry for myself earlier this evening, I realized that one thing can always cheer me up. I popped Love Actually into the DVD player, laughing and crying my way to a less pitiful mood. This scene in particular always makes me laugh:
I mean, how can anyone see that and NOT want to snuggle up with Hugh Grant? Love it!
Hilarity Ensued
Last night we celebrated my friend DDD’s 26th birthday by going to a local bar for a few adult beverages… a few too many, as it happens, but lately that’s been my MO.
We went to PJ Ryans because two other friends were playing there – Stuckey & Murray consistently crack me up, so I couldn’t wait to see them play live.
Don’t believe me? The live performance was just as much fun as this video.
I Heart Kelly Clarkson
I don’t watch American Idol, but I love Kelly Clarkson. A lot. So I am so happy that a co-worker just told me about her song last night…
This is also the first time I’m attempting to embed a video, so let’s see how it works…
Good News on a Sucky Day
In the wake of St. Patty’s day, do I have stories of ridiculous drunken behavior? Well… yes, but I’m not posting that because something MUCH more important has come up…
I just found out (somewhat belatedly) that the Beatles and Apple have resolved their long-standing legal battle over the use of the company name “Apple”… which means that the Beatles will probably be on iTunes soon!
This news has brightened up an otherwise sucky day at work.
Pop Music
I don’t think that all music needs to be original and important… hell, I barely think that talent is really a requirement. Yes, I like music with touching lyrics and original music. But I also think there’s a lot to be said for music that is FUN. Those tunes that make you want to jump up off the couch and dance around the living room with a hairbrush for a microphone.
This said, it’s no surprise that I like pop music. But over the last couple years I haven’t found new pop that has that same effect on me that pop from the 80s through early 00s had. For a little bit, I was afraid that I was outgrowing pop music… and I’m not going to lie, I was sad! But then, last year, Ali changed my mind.
She gave me the Pussycat Doll CD. It is AWESOME.
Every song on the album makes me want to shake it all over the place. When I play the album in my iPod on the subway or when I’m walking around the city, I can’t help but dance and sway. I LOVE the new NBA commercials with the girls singing “Right Now.” I terrorize my BF by singing “Don’t Cha” and “Buttons” to him when he’s trying to watch hockey. It’s kind of weird… but I could not be happier.
What’s totally sad is that this love of PCD has led me to NOT change the channel after America’s Next Top Model ended tonight… and I’m watching the new CW show where they look for a new Pussycat Doll. Whoops.
Love Letter
Dear George Clooney,
I’m writing in response to your recent interview, when you said that you want to adopt a “good-looking 24-year-old girl with some cash.” I’d like to ask you to consider me!
While I am a little bit older than 24 (but only two years!) and don’t so much have “cash” as “credit card debt”, I can offer you more than youth and money! I can offer you a ton of Guitar Hero fun, almost full control of the TV (but I retain control during America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway!), and hours and hours and HOURS of snuggling.
Consider it, George. Please?
Love always,
Anna
