what a wonderful world

h1 January 15th, 2008

Last night, after I rocked the kitchen and produced a healthy and yummy salmon dinner (with asparagus!) in only 35 minutes (including prep time!), the BF and I settled down on the couch to watch the first episode of Planet Earth.

I admit that I’m a tree-hugger (or at least a wannabe one), and I love pretty much all nature-related movies.  March of the Penguins?  An Inconvenient Truth?  Loved them.  Discovery Channel and Animal Planet?  So amazing.  But Planet Earth takes nature viewing to a whole new level.  In “Pole to Pole” (the title of episode one), the views that they were able to photograph and film are just heart-stoppingly beautiful.  I cried and laughed, and can’t wait to watch the other 11 episodes.  Can. Not. Wait.

  1. Is this the one that is narrated by Sigourney Weaver? If so, I’ve seen a couple and they are great. I love her voice - it is so appropriate for this.

  2. No, this one is narrated by David Attenborough. Apparently Sigourney Weaver narrated the American version (which was broadcast on Discovery), but I’m watching the BBC version (which I purchased for the BF as a Christmas present). According to reviews on Amazon, they’re mostly the same footage and narration, but the American version had to trim out some content “in order to allow for commercials and the more rigid scheduling requirements of American television.”

    I haven’t heard Sigourney’s voice-over, but I’m sure she did a wonderful job. David’s voice is perfect too, so I’m happy! :)
