Peer Pressure

For the past six months or so, some of my friends have been harassing me about my internet habits.  Not about being online too much (only my boyfriend thinks that!), but about not being in the right places.  Specifically… I’m not on MySpace.

Apparently refusing to join MySpace is sacriligious among fellow internet lovers.  But I just don’t have the time or energy to do ANOTHER online activity that requires a level of commitment.  I mean, I have this blog.  I’m already on Friendster, which is how I keep in touch with my high school friends.  I email obsessively.  Do I really need to be on MySpace?  Apparently so.

I just don’t know – is MySpace really worth the effort?

No way. I’m also on Friendster and not on MySpace, and it’s for one reason: I happened to join Friendster first, I find no real use for it, and I can’t imagine how having two useless profiles on trendy sites would be any better than one. Skip MySpace. Who needs another junky thing to maintain?

I’ll admit, though: I have considered joining MySpace only because I recently discovered someone else with my name on there, and I’m not diggin’ that at all. That jerk can’t have a monopoly on my name!

You know, I was on MySpace two or three years ago, when it was getting geared up. I stayed on for about a year, until the constant barrage of freaks (the bad kind) and creepy messages and shitty bands trying to add me as their friend sent me packin’. If you ask me, it’s just…eew. I guess the fact that my ex cheated on me with umpteen MySpace whores may cloud my view a bit, but still…it’s pretty ick.

I don’t think it’s worth the effort at all. I have one, but rarely do I update it or any such thing. It’s become a bore for me.

This site is great :) You’re more than fine with what you’re already doing.
