MTV Movie Awards

h1 Thursday, June 9th, 2005

MTV Movie Awards are starting right now… I’m slightly appalled that Nicole Richie AND Lindsey Lohan were on screen at the same time. It was like an advertisement for coke. Gross.

Anyways, I’ll leave the rest of the celeb insults to the brilliant girls at gofugyourself. For now, all I have to say is that I am ECSTATIC that they’re having some kind of Breakfast Club reunion/tribute. Apparently the brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess, and the criminal are all in the hizzzouse! YEAH! AND Molly Ringwald said she’s in talks to do a sequel to 16 candles. I predict she and Jake (and it BETTER be the same hot Michael Shoeffling) are married with a 16 year old daughter. And Ginny is on her 4th husband. I’d totally watch it.

I can’t wait to see what girls end up kissing at this year’s show.

Summer, Summer, Summer Time..

And… I’m back. I missed you so much, bloggy. Let’s not be apart so long ever again.

Anyways, this last weekend was the kick-off to the summer for me. After “Spring Break ‘05″ in Montreal last weekend, I thought coming back to Boston would be a bummer. But, I LOVED THIS LAST WEEKEND. LOVED IT.

Saturday was a lot of fun - I went to a picnic/barbeque in CT. I actually got way too much sun (thanks to the topless Jeep), and am now sporting a lobster-ish sunburn. But it was cool to hang out with friends, play backyard volleyball and horseshoes, and eat in the sun. It felt so summery, you know? Then, late Saturday night, we decided to get up early on Sunday and go to Six Flags!

I may have mentioned before that I love roller-coasters, and think amusement parks are the best places ever, but I didn’t get a chance to really expound on that. So, here’s the deal… the Superman ride at Six Flags New England is the best coaster ever - 2.5 minutes, speeds of 77 mph, a 220+ foot drop - YEAH! I also LOVED Flashback (going backwards at 50 mph is NOT normal), the Mind Eraser (yes, it did what the name implies for a couple of minutes), and Cyclone (a rickety wooden coaster). AND the waterpark is so freaking cool - I am obsessed with the lazy river (called Adventure River here), and the Tornado, which shoots you (on a 2 to 4 person raft) out a tube, into a huge funnel that you spin down until you shoot out into the pool. Awesome. Freakin’ awesome.

Summer’s here!

Late Post Means I’m Posting About Something No One Cares About…

h1 Friday, June 3rd, 2005

I’m posting way later than usual, and since everyone seems to check this thing from work, I know no one will see this. So I’ve decided to take this time to post about sports related things… I know you don’t really care, so this way, when you check in on Monday morning, you won’t feel like you missed anything exciting.

There’s an article on espn.com that asks who Shaq really is, and whether he’s deserving of all his hype. While the article rambles on for a while, not really picking any side, this stood out to me:

There’s a story about Shaquille O’Neal that cannot be written. It’s the one about the flaws in his game that have nothing to do with free throws, his lack of commitment, his insecurities as a teammate and person, or how he always plays the victim.

No one will write that story because Shaq is Shaq – the nicest guy in the world, the guy with the heart of a kid, the most unpretentious superstar in professional sports. No media person in his right (or write) mind would degrade Shaq in print. It’s career suicide. It isn’t worth it.

And that about sums it up for me. He’s not a perfect player, a perrenial MVP. But he’s too good of a guy to not be written about that way, so all we’ll ever hear is how he was the best, the most dominant, etc., etc., etc. You all know how I feel already, so I’ll let it go now….

In other espn.com news, The Sports Guy pretty much perfectly summed up the OC season finale. I LOVE that he watches the OC. It’s the coolest thing ever, because it makes me feel less cheesy about loving the show…

Okay, that’s it. I’m off to a BBQ, then to Connecticut tomorrow… See you Monday!

(just realized I used a lot of ellipses in this post…)

Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!

The only bad thing about long weekends is that when you get back to work, you find that your papers and tasks have been banging the entire time, and have had a litter of CRAP that is now covering your desk, filling up your email inbox, and sucking the life out of you. Blah. I needed a break, so here I am.

Thought I’d give everyone a Goonies update - I watched it last night. And I now see how wrong I was to go so long without - it was fabulous. Please, everyone… forgive me. My favorite part? Hard to say - there was so much to take in. It may have been the hysterical Spanish translations Corey did - so great considering his later drug problems. Or the water-slide into the lagoon - why isn’t that a water park ride yet, by the way? I totally have a crush on Brand (did 90210 rip off his name?), and think the Sloth/Chunk friendship is the sweetest thing ever. Great movie… and I now feel much more complete as a child of the 80s.

In other news, Deep Throat was revealed yesterday. I wanted to post about this yesterday (there was going to be a funny connection between Deep Throat and Alexis & Ali’s making out in Montreal - guess what it was?) But since work was trying to kill me, I didn’t have time. So here are my thoughts…. Is it wrong that I was always assuming it was a girl? Okay, okay, seriously - I’m glad that Felt decided to go public while he is still living, instead of allowing Woodward & Bernstein to reveal his identity after his death. It makes things much more clear, and seems much more believable. Plus, maybe we can have a made for TV movie about the drama of government corruption and lies - I think this is great timing.
