Stuck in the 80s?
April 5th, 2005
I have serious beef with a LOT of female commuters. Why, you ask? Well, I can sum it up in three words… SNEAKERS WITH STOCKINGS.
You’ve all seen them - the women who wear sneakers for their commute to work with their skirts and pantyhose.

Who ARE these women that think this is okay? Are we still in the 80s? Do they think they are Melanie Griffith in Working Girl? (I know you remember the scene!)
How uncomfortable can their work shoes be? My shoes range from flats to 3.5 inch heels, and I don’t have any problems walking in any of them. Maybe I’m an extraordinarily gifted walker? I don’t know. But if their shoes are so uncomfortable that they can’t wear them to work, how on earth are they going to be able to function for eight hours at work? I don’t get it.
Can anybody explain it to me?

I used to do that when I worked at morgan stanley. commuting back and forth from jersey to nyc, I used to do the sneaks with stockings. lex started calling me the jamaican mamma. but I am not jamaican.
[...] But it’s not my fault! You know how much I HATE this look - I am (contrary to some people’s opinions) NOT a Working Girl. [...]
